What is the greatest asset any company has? If you didn't respond "it's customers" you should have. It's been said that it takes thirty times more energy to frown than to smile. That's about how much more work it is to gain a customer as compared to keeping a customer. And yet, we experience on at least a weekly basis the effects of a single event that makes us say "I'll never do business with that company again!"
Consider this ... what is it about people that would allow them to work so hard to create a business relationship, and then cast it away so casually?
To do such a thing is just like a student who spends the entire semester writing a term paper, only to throw it away the day before it is due.
Take a moment to consider the way you treat your hard-earned customers. Consider every aspect of your day-to-day dealings with them. Are you keeping in touch with them enough? Too often? Are they greeted warmly and thanked kindly? Jeff Bezos, CEO of Amazon, said in Business 2.0: "We made the choice a long time ago that we were going to be customer-obsessed rather than competitor focused." If you aren't customer-obsessed, you might be your own worst competitor.
